Think Pink – Or Not?

For a colour with such gentle connotations, PINK, for one reason or another, always ends up being pretty contentious, both in our team & sometimes with our customers; but why is that?

It’s an interesting topic for conversation, and prompted by a comment on our social media I thought it worth exploring a little more!

Whilst none of us can cover any discussion from every angle, as a woman, mother of a daughter, and a lifelong sports person of one discipline or another, I find myself with mixed feelings about pink. I hate the concept of any sports brand manufacturing twee women’s kit along the ‘shrink it & pink it’ mindset. Women need sports apparel to be designed ergonomically and with their needs in mind, not every female likes pink, so I’d hope this strategy is very much something of the past.

And, whilst I admittedly might (inwardly!) roll my eyes every time a new range features a predominant pink colourway, I also run in my favourite pair of flyweight bright Pink Nikes, own a pink Fitbit, and am pretty partial to pink lippy – so why do so many of us feel so exasperated with pink when a large number of women, sportspeople or not, just happen to like it?

A lot of perceptions I think come from being told what we should & shouldn’t like – or our preconception of who it is who is telling us what we should be buying or wearing. Would it make me more likely to buy a pink jersey if I knew a woman had designed it & chosen that colour as a fiery, bright & bold statement colour pop – or would I assume it was a male designer who’d selected it because ‘women’s kit always comes in pink’. Interesting, right!

At the end of the day, for Tenn as a small brand, customer really is king. I’d guess this is true for most brands, regardless of their size; you stock what your customers like.

For us, every sale matters and we want every single customer to love their product, so when it comes to selecting colours we do our homework – we speak to customers, we ask our ambassadors what they would like to see, we analyze sales trends, we research the market; and without fail, pink always comes into play. The same applies with men’s kit – we always tend to think black is a boring colour for apparel, and yet roughly 70% of men’s product sales are (you guessed it!) black.

So – who decides? Do brands dictate the colours that are popular since we buy what they make, or do customers vote with their feet – or their online shopping baskets?

I think it’s a bit of both, but one thing is for sure – Pink sells, and love it or hate it, it’s here to stay!

Size Charts & Buying Guide

Size charts & buying guide

Below are the Tenn sizing charts, and some information about measuring, and technical properties which we hope will be helpful. If there is anything you need a hand with, that we have not included here, please Contact Us and we are always happy to help!

Measuring

As a general rule, keep the measuring tape firm, but not too tight. If you're measuring yourself, try to take them more than once, to average out any change in your posture.

Measuring your chest:

Simply measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape level under your arms and across your back.

Measuring your waist:

Just measure around the narrowest part of your body at your hips.

Measuring for gloves:

Wrap a tape measure around your strongest hand just below the knuckles and fingers, make a loose fist. Please round up to the nearest size and (not down).
